Personal information

Federica Maria Strati is a Ph.D. student in Ocean and Marine Engineering at the “Mediterranea” University of Reggio Calabria, Italy. Her advisor is Prof. F. Arena, Full Professor at the same institution, and Prof. P. Spanos, Full Professor at the Rice University, Houston, TX (USA).  In January 2014 she obtain a three years scholarship funded by the DICEAM Department of the “Mediterranea” University of Reggio Calabria. The topic of her Ph.D. thesis concerns Ocean Energy. In this context, her research activity deals with the dynamics of devices for the wave energy exploitation embodied into traditional maritime structures, using the Oscillating Water Column as working principle. The main objectives of her research are focused on analyses performed on the novel U-OWC device. From one end, she is interested in performing robust investigations on the theoretical modelling of the device, including the validation of results by means of small-scale field experiments; on the other hand, conduct analyses to optimize the performance of the coupled U-OWC-Power Take Off system, developing algorithms aiming to control the rotational speed of the turbine.
