U-OWC plant and air turbine for the production of electrical power from sea waves – POSEIDONE

Project description

Research Project: "U-OWC plant and air turbine for the production of electrical power from sea waves - POSEIDONE", funded by the Ministry of Environment in the Notice for the funding of research projects aimed at realizations of works characterized by energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources in urban areas (GU-SerieV n°150 of 21/12/2009 ) - Partners: Mediterranea University, University of Rome La Sapienza; Faggiolati Pumps SpA; Wavenergy.it Ltd. Role: component of the research group of Reggio Calabria with Proff. Felice Arena (project leader), Paolo Boccotti, Giuseppe Barbaro, Vincenzo Fiamma and Alessandra Romolo. In the project, a small-scale field experiment on a model of REWEC3 caisson will be executed at the Natural Ocean Engineering Laboratory to test the conversion of wave energy and the production of electrical power given by the REWEC3 plant. In the plant will be located a model of Wells turbine of 2kW of installed power, designed by the project partners. The first small-scale field validation of the REWEC3 – turbine dynamic model is here used for predicting system response in real sea wave conditions. The final goal of the project is to obtain electrical power from the REWEC3 - Wells turbine plant.
